The night before Thanksgiving, we went into Manhattan to see the parade balloons. They inflate them on Wednesday afternoon, and tether them down until the parade. Since it was a relatively warm evening for December, the crowds and traffic were CRAZY. We got really lucky and found a meter just two blocks from the entrance to the viewing area (yippee!). To get into the viewing area around the Museum of Natural History was a little scary at times with so many people packed in the same space, and us with the two girls and our big stroller, but we managed. Once we were on the path to view the balloons, it was a lot of fun. The crowds thinned so it was much less stressful, and we were able to see the balloons up close. Clare loved it. I wish we had been able to watch the parade on TV the next day so that Clare could see the balloons she saw the night before, but alas we were on the road early to head upstate.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Clare's school had a multicultural feast. All the classes were together to share the food brought by the parents. There was so much food! Lots of Indian, Asian and Spanish dishes, right next to good ol' American hot dogs and donuts. It was very enjoyable. Watch the video of Clare's class back in their classroom working off some of the food they ate!
After we traced her hands and drew the turkey feet and beaks, Clare did ALL the painting, coloring and cutting. I wanted to take a picture before she folded them to go into the envelopes, but she insisted, as you can tell by the creases.
